If you are considering the add-on endorsement or certification in ESOL, you might be interested in the 100 percent online M.Ed. in Language and Literacy, or the 100 percent online M.Ed. in Teaching. Both of these degree programs will allow you to focus on ESOL as an area of study.
In order to gain add-on endorsement or certification for ESOL, in addition to completing the above coursework with a grade of C or better, teachers must have:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher;
- Initial or Professional certificate at the early childhood, elementary, middle, secondary, or PK–12 level;
- Minimum qualifying score(s) on the content area examination(s) required by the South Carolina Department of Education.
Add-on endorsement and certification is determined and granted by the South Carolina Department of Education. Prior to beginning coursework, it is recommended that teachers contact the South Carolina Department of Education to determine steps to add-on endorsement and certification areas. Refer to the South Carolina Guidelines and Requirements for Adding Certification Fields and Endorsements for the most current add-on requirements as they are subject to change.
