Changing the status of a case outcome is determined on an individual basis. Factors that may be considered in addition to this petition are:
- The student’s ability to accept responsibility for their actions in the initial meeting (Carolina Judicial Council hearings are not eligible)
- The student’s initial incident may have occurred due to lack of understanding university policies or lacked intent
- The student completed all outcomes in a timely manner (all outcomes submitted by deadlines)
Eligibility:
A student may submit this request no sooner than one calendar year after the resolution of the Academic Integrity or Student Conduct case.
- Students who have had another violation of the Honor Code or Code of Conduct are ineligible. Only students with one case are eligible for this finding.
- Decisions that are made through a Carolina Judicial Council hearing are final. Cases heard by the council are not eligible for this petition process.
- Students who have been issued a Transcript Notation as a result of a violation of the Honor Code or Code of Conduct are ineligible.
- Cases involving interpersonal violence or harm to persons are not eligible.
Petition statements should include a demonstration of growth and impact of this violation on your future goals:
- The student demonstrates an improved ability for personal and professional decision making. This demonstration should incorporate examples from the Carolinian Creed and Honor Code or Code of Conduct.
- The student demonstrates learning as a result of the Academic Integrity or Student Conduct process.
- The violation would have a proven (please show research of statements from future graduate programs/employers indicating how this record may effect eligibility) negative impact on the student's future career goals.
