Honors Advisement and Course Registration Information for Incoming Freshman

We are very excited that you will be joining us this coming fall and look forward to seeing all of you during summer orientation and this fall.  As an Honors College Student, you have priority registration over other freshman.  Honors advising and course registration for incoming freshman is May 15 – June 9 and is conducted either by phone or Skype.  In this 30 – 45 minute appointment, your honors advisor will advise you on courses for your major and honors requirements and enroll you in classes for the fall 2017 semester.

To sign up for your honors advising and course registration appointment, please see the steps below:

  1. Complete the Freshman Worksheet located at the bottom of this webpage under Forms. This is a required form and not optional.
  2. Save the Freshman Worksheet as a PDF document in the following format: LastName_First NameMiddleName
  3. Using your USC email account, send the worksheet to register@schc.sc.edu and in the email subject, please type: 2017 New Student Honors Advising

The Freshman Worksheet is due by May 10 in order to receive information about your honors advisor and the link to schedule your advisement and course registration appointment.   The information will be emailed to your USC email address.  There will be web links and other useful information in the email to help you with preparing for phone advisement and course registration.

Prepare for Your Appointment

  • Allot at least 45 minutes for your honor advisement and course registration appointment.
  • Take the Math Placement Test at least 72 hours prior to your scheduled appointment to ensure your score will be visible in SSC.  For information about the Math Placement Test, please visit the following webpage: http://www.math.sc.edu/assess
  • Make sure you have Internet access and will have a computer available during the appointment to view major and honors requirements.
  • Familiarize yourself with the degree requirements and course offerings of both the Honors College (found here) and your current major.
  • View the fall 2017 honors course listings (found here) and the Schedule Planner in my.sc.edu to build a mock schedule prior to the advising phone call.

Honors Session at New Student Orientation

During the University’s New Student Orientation program, you will learn a lot about the University as a whole and get valuable information to your specific major.  In the afternoon on the second day, there is an Honors College session that includes lunch and a brief program led by Honors College staff and Honors student ambassadors. Additionally, you can meet with an honors college advisor if you need to make any course schedule changes.
